Terrorism or insurgency?
Up to now I've been hesitant to say this out loud, but I wonder if the London bombings aren't the surest signal that al Qaeda, those that MSM romantically refers to as "insurgents", are beginning to see the futility of their fight in Iraq. They have succeeded in stopping nothing. They didn't stop the transfer of power to the Iraqi interim government, they didn't stop the Iraqi elections, they haven't stopped the efforts to put together an Iraqi consitution. At this point there is no discernable purpose to their killings beyong the killings themselves, and the bombings in London bear this out.
But there's something some of the Iraqi bloggers have noticed. Recognizing terrorism in Iraq for what it is, they see the expressions of solidarity with the Londoners, wonder why similar sentiments haven't been extended to the Iraqis as well. Here's Hammorabi Sam.
TB [Tony Blair] in his speech in the House of Common today mentioned about and condemned the terrorist attacks in London, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, USA, and many other states but he haven't mentioned the terrorist attacks which occur on a daily basis in Iraq!
Iraqi Expat wonders too.
A candlelight vigil was held in front of the British Embassy in Bahrain to show solidarity with the British people, and to express rejection of the terror attacks in London. It was attended by over hundred people and there are some great pictures.
Another vigil was held by 60 Jordanians outside the British Embassy in Jordan's capital, Amman, to protest at the London terror attacks and express solidarity with the British people.
[...]
This is great, and it says a lot. I am really glad I found this; however, I am a bit upset that these people and others didn't do something like this for the innocent Iraqis, nor did they show solidarity with them in any form, or did they? Especially the Jordanians, why didn't they? Or do they not think that what happens in Iraq is terrorism?
Good question. To MSM and to the folks over on the left who ooze compassion and pine for social justice, what's happening in Iraq is not terrorism. They cling to the idiocy that the war in Iraq has nothing to do with the Global War on Terror. The hold to their stupid theories that the war was for the oil, or that for personal or political reasons George Bush had always intended to invade Iraq. And so the murderers in Iraq are not criminals or terrorists. They're "insurgents". Some people like to think of them as modern day Minutemen. But this viewpoint has less to do with what's going on in Iraq than with their own unhappiness over the re-election of George Bush. On the left there's no solidarity with the Iraqis unless it is with anti-American Iraqis.
But things may be changing. The bombings in London suggest that desperation may be descending on the terrorists. In Iraq, bombing the recruiting stations and murdering recruits has not stopped the Iraqis from lining up to enlist with the police or National Guard. Nothing has been stopped. Nothing. So in looking for what they hoped would be a softer target the thugs decided on London, but that was a dismal failure as well. Not only did it fail to cause a hint of wavering in British policy, it didn't stop the Londoners from going to work the next day.
The terrorists will be defeated and they know it. But it won't happen before more bombings and more terror are inflicted on innocent civilians. It might help if some of our friends in MSM would stop conferring legitimacy on al Qaeda by referring to them as "insurgents" and begin seeing them for what they are -- criminals, murderers. Let's drop the "cultural sensitivity" act.
