The counting begins
Here are comments from some of the Iraqi bloggers who ventured out to vote. Zeyad, who dropped out of sight back in March, came back to say,
"I voted against."
Omar Fadhil voted in favor.
I met one friend on the way and when I asked him what would his vote be he said that he hasn’t decided yet “if I voted yes I would be approving some articles that I don’t agree with and if I voted no we would go back to where we started from…” he said and that was really refreshing because this guy who used to believe in conspiracy theories and stuff like “what America wants is what’s going to happen” now feels that his vote can make a difference.
Aunt Najma is too young to vote but went along anyway.
Some people swear that the results will be YES even if we vote NO, but we did what we can..
Najma, from Mosul, a city were Sunnis are a majority.
While he doesn't come right out and say it, I think we can guess how Hammorabi voted.
This is the first time for the Iraqis to vote for their own constitution. It is indeed the first time in the Middle East especially the Arab countries.
We expect a big YES for the constitution possibly around 80%. This YES is a big bullet in the head of the terrorism.
This is a historic day and the political process moving forward in spite of the efforts of all of the evils to disable or delay it.
Yes with a Capital (Y)
Short Story: I DID.
Mama posting at Emotions would rather not say how she voted, but she takes it very seriously as well she should. Yesterday she said,
Tomorrow is suppose to be the big day (referendum day)… I can't made up my mind about………… what shall I do? What shall I choose ?...am I be safe?
Today she made up her mind, and she courageously went out to vote.
I hurdled my fears & maze & went to VOTE . we were only few people because It was only 8 in the morning , but I saw many people standing out side their houses espying...
My conclusion is this, people voted YES to prostrate terrorism , and to get rid of the disarray life we live right now & not YES for the constitution it self. And those who said NO said it to reject the idea of obeying orders from those who institute that everyone should say YES for a constitution, which very few had the chance to have a look at in the last few hours before referendum .
Stay safe ….
Mama …
Sunshine, a thirteen year old girl from Mosul who also wished she could vote, said this on her blog Days of My Life.
Today was the big day , the referendum day.. That was really good day , my mom , dad , grandpa , grandma , my grandparents who live in Baghdad all my relatives who are older then 18 went & voted, I wish I was above 18 , to vote …
Sooni, of Baghdad has pictures.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see 80% favorable votes. Could be more as several Sunnis may vote yes in a secret ballot.

Mama's words are the ones that get to me. She makes you realize that going out to vote is not a casual thing in Iraq. It's a huge deal, and the Iraqi people are risking their lives to do it. She risked her life to cast her vote.
Compare that to our loyal opposition who demand a timetable for withdrawal -- as if they care about our troops, or the Iraqis, or anything but their own re-election chances.
