Hidden news

While news stories today from the mainstream press work hard to make the case that the Administration routinely misused intelligence, Power Line points out a bit of news from Investor's Business Daily that contradicts one of their most tenaciously held precepts.  That being the one that says there was never any connection between Saddam Hussein and terrorists.

Last month the Pentagon began releasing records captured during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Among the documents is a letter dated March 11, 2001, written by Abdel Magid Hammod Ali, one of Saddam's air force generals.

According to an unofficial translation, Page 6 of the letter asks for "the names of those who desire to volunteer for suicide mission to liberate Palestine and to strike American interests."

Assuming the document's accuracy, this shows that Saddam's regime was not only providing aid and support for terrorist organizations of other countries. It was also planning its own bombings directed at U.S. facilities and personnel.

The editorial asks, "Why won't Washington get the word out?"  That's easy.  If they did it wouldn't go anywhere.  The mainstream press is unwilling to report this as if it were credible because it would be an admission that they've been wrong all along.  That's not something they're willing to do -- at least not before the next election cycle.

The Investor's Business Daily column quotes Dan Darling's report in the Weekly Standard article in which he said,

IN JULY 2004, DURING THE COURSE of a little-publicized event while on a visit to Kazakhstan, Russian President Vladimir Putin made some unusual remarks:

I can confirm that after the events of September 11, 2001, and up to the military operation in Iraq, Russian special services and Russian intelligence several times received . . . information that official organs of Saddam's regime were preparing terrorist acts on the territory of the United States and beyond its borders, at U.S. military and civilian locations.

Having denied the existence of any Iraq/terrorist connection for so long and with evidence to the contrary mounting, the mainstream press now simply ignore the issue.  Besides, they're busy fighting the enemy within.  That would be the Bush Administration.

I wait for that mainstream press house of cards to come tumbling down.  It will come.  I'm sure of it.
