Trends

As everybody knows, good news is no news, particularly when it comes to Iraq.  That tendency is even more pronounced because Iraq has been such a useful battering ram against the Administration.  Strategy Page often has what you won't find in the headlines, as with this article, Watch the Trends, Not the Headlines.

While some Sunni Arabs were in favor of an Islam Republic, which al Qaeda insisted on, most Sunni Arabs wanted a more secular Sunni Arab dominated government. This dispute was never resolved, as the split between al Qaeda and the Sunni Arab community widened. At the moment, al Qaeda is not welcome in most Sunni Arab areas. That's "come near this place and we'll kill you" not welcome.

Taylor, I think you're giving the media way too much credit here. They remind me of the restaurant waiter who when walking past your table and never looks your way. Meanwhile you're waving your hands and all but jumping up. The mainstream press are like that waiter. They know where not to look.
