Whatever it is that afflicts Lord Kerry, is it possible that it has turned epidemic? By making Vietnam the centerpiece of his campaign, Kerry has demonstrated that he is either self absorbed to the point of utter blindness, arrogant to the point of absurdity, or monumentally stupid. Perhaps it’s a combination, but whatever it is, it seems to have the contagion of a flu epidemic.
What to make of Dan Rather and his forgeries. I don’t want to mince words. I’m not a court of law, and I’m not bound to the old “innocent until proven guilty”, any more than Dan was when he embarked on his journalistic fraud in hopes of assassinating the Bush Presidency. And that’s what it was - journalistic fraud. It was planned. It was deliberate. It was timed to inflict maximum damage to the Bush-Cheney campaign.
But it was so stupid. Have they been hanging out together, Dan and John? Maybe they started sharing a toothbrush or drinking out of the same bathroom glass. Whatever it is, their collaboration may not only make this campaign the dirtiest in the last 50 years, but also push it over the edge as the dumbest. Makes you wonder if together they add up to a halfwit.
Is it something in the water? Here’s Maureen Dowd, columnist renowned for the NYT. But this summer, when that lust for power should have been coursing through his veins, Mr. Kerry grew timid and logy. He let the Bush crowd and Swift boat character assassins stomp all over him and, for the longest time, didn't fight back. He stumbled into every trap Bush Inc. set.
Did you get the part about the Swift Boat character assassins? Here we have one of our journalistic elite who somehow lacks the imagination to ever consider that of the million or so Vietnam combat veterans, there might be one or two who were really, really angered about being called war criminals. What about family members of soldiers who were killed in action in Vietnam? Would it be conceivable that they might have felt betrayed, as they watched a younger Kerry testify to the criminality of their lost loved ones? How might they feel now, as an older Kerry drags up the memory of Vietnam yet again, for no other purpose but the furtherance of his own political ambition? Is there a light on in the Dowd attic? No. In the world of the vacuous Dowd, any who speak ill of Lord Kerry are character assassins.
Yeah, that’s sure to win ‘em over. It's been a brilliant strategy all along. It'll be landslide of historic proportions, no doubt. Maybe I shouldn't be so tough on Dowd. After all she isn't saying anything different from what every other Democrat has been saying all year. Well, maybe that in itself isn't too bright. I think the realization is setting in that these people are not the sharpest knives in the drawer. They haven’t sense enough to even care about the truth, never mind try to discover it. The dumbest thing? They think they're pretty smart.
The fact that these people will go to such extremes in their quest for political power makes them the most dangerous threat to freedom in the United States. More and more I believe this to be true.
Only their apparent self-destruction as a cohesive force in government gives me any solace or, however fleeting, peace of mind.
Their never ending spin/lies and rationalization of their most heinous actions, sicken me. Whenever I have debated them and slapped down their arguments with verifiable fact and logic, they blithely go on, as if it hadn't happened like some form of cognitive dissonance worthy of electro convulsive therapy.
Pin them down, box their ears, rub their face in it and the cycle starts again with the canard; Bush lied!
God, please give me strength!
