The News Junkie at Maggie's Farm says the war in Iraq is not a war.
When we bombed Cologne, Berlin, and Hiroshima, we did not worry about these things. If the war in Iraq were a true war, we would have already bombed Iran, which is supporting the "insurgents."
This is not a "war" in Iraq: it's a magnified "police action," or "surgical action," with the best of intentions - but now the enemy is those who oppose a free Iraq - and not the US, really: they want to kill eachother.
I've always said, "Shock and Awe" was neither shocking nor awesome. Unfortunately the West is extremely weak. We fight for cities or neighborhoods even, gain control of that section, and then pull out only to let the enemy return. In my opinion we should have made bolder statements at the beginning of the war in order to change some of these heathens' minds on their chances in opposing us. Yes more people would have been killed then but the fact is they are being killed every day with this mess that is happening over there in Iraq. In Kofi Annan's final speech before ending his term, he referenced the "far-sighted leadership in the Truman tradition". I really don't see anyone today, especially Kofi and the rest of the UN, that has the guts to do what needs to be done.

Heathens?
Yes, people who refuse to step forward out of the dark ages.
