Denis Collins is the former Washington Post reporter who served on the jury that convicted I. Lewis Libby of criminal disagreement with journalists. In Sunday's edition he served up his impressions of the delibrations. This got me:
One juror opened things up by declaring, "I think they're lying. Every one of them."
You'd think there might be room for some reasonable doubt in there somewhere.
...Although there was no unanimity on any count at the beginning, there were no great splits. For instance, our initial vote on the first count we considered -- perjury -- was 9 to 2 in favor of guilt. And on the last count we considered it was also 9 to 2 -- but for not guilty. Through it all, our collegiality was never threatened.
Through it all... How very heartwarming.
