In his assessment yesterday of the state of the Middle East, Victor Davis Hanson made the case that things are actually improving there. He brushes by one small item that strikes me as a potential disaster for congressional Democrats.
Something happened in Syria as a result of that air strike, which emphasizes that the Syrian-Iranian-North Korea axis is real (in spite of all the visits by Dennis Kucinich and Nancy Pelosi), and makes one wonder not just about Korea and Iran, but perhaps even about the role of Saddam’s exiled technicians and/or their equipment in all this.
That air strike is the one announced by Israel a couple of weeks ago that has, strangely enough, drawn no discernable reaction from world leaders. Maybe a role for exiled Iraqi technicians and equipment in all this is more than just idle speculation. What happens if Saddam's weapons programs eventually turn up in Syria? Why is everybody so quiet?
Correction: Israel did not announce the air strike. Syria announced that it had fired on Israeli aircraft that had violated Syrian airspace, while Israel has maintained a blackout on the incident. Still, the diplomatic silence over this is quite strange, and silence of congressional Democrats is deafening.
