The worst part of it is that, once passed, there will never be enough will to repeal it on the part of the Republicans. Even though many will campaign and be elected specifically for that purpose, once in office enough Republicans will enjoy the pleasures of power too much to want to crusade for repeal. Conservative libertarianism isn't really a driving ideology among the political class in general.

That's why most of them don't really want to be in the majority. The majority never gets praised, they get blamed. It's safer to pose as the opposition.

Actually, PJ, I think they really do want to be in the majority, though at the moment Democrats are expecting to take an electoral hit over health care. They're gambling that its passage will guarantee them future majorities when the effects of expanded dependency on government take hold.
