When asked, I always say my two favorite football teams are the New York Giants and whoever is playing the New England Patriots.
Bill Belichick, what a weasel.
“Recently, I was offered the opportunity to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which I was flattered by out of respect for what the honor represents and admiration for prior recipients,” the Patriots’ head coach said in a statement. “Subsequently, the tragic events of last week occurred and the decision has been made not to move forward with the award.
“Above all, I am an American citizen with great reverence for our nation’s values, freedom and democracy. I know I also represent my family and the New England Patriots team.
Note the weaselly passive voice: "the decision has been made." What a great friend.
Belichick, who has previously spoken publicly about his friendship with the president, was set to receive the nation’s highest civilian honor after Trump offered it over a week ago.
Now my two favorite football teams are, first and foremost, whoever is playing the Patriots and, second, the New York Giants.
