...but that was before he denied that there was NIH funding for it.
In this clip Fauci might be telling the truth — technically — but I doubt it. Listen to how carefully he makes his distinctions. Did NIH provide funding to the Wuhan Institute of Virology for Gain of Function research? No. If NIH provided funding for Gain of Function research, it was in North Carolina. After his emphatic "No," Fauci denies neither that the Wuhan lab received funding, nor that Gain of Function research received funding.
NIH didn't provide funding to Wuhan. It provided funding to Peter Daszak, and he provided funding to Wuhan. Fauci is lying by omission, and I'm pretty sure that, in the vanishingly unlikely event Fauci gets criminally charged, US criminal law doesn't allow you do accomplish through intermediaries what would be illegal if done directly.
What I don't get is GoF research is illegal everywhere in the US, why does Fauci appear to believe funding it in North Carolina passes muster?

Whether by commission or omission, Fauci lied. And if not about funding about efficacy of other treatments for the Wuhan virus. I'd be interested in learning how is investment portfolio performed over the course of the pandemic.
